History

Thanks to the efforts of Donald McIntosh, M.D., a Kansas City anesthesiologist, the Missouri State Medical Association (MSMA) established the Missouri Physicians Health Foundation in 1985. Dr. Mcintosh saw physicians as valuable in and of themselves. Many have dedicated long years of study in pursuit of practicing medicine. Dr. McIntosh had a strong belief that salvaging a physician’s career was critical for the physician and the healthcare community. Robert Bondurant followed in his footsteps and continued to run the program for over 25 years until his passing in 2020.
In 2024, the MSMA closed the Missouri Physicians Health Program. In 2025, Mary Fahey and Kay O’Shea wanted to continue their dedication to Robert Bondurant’s legacy. They created the STL-Professionals Health Program, which serves not only physicians but also other healthcare professionals in and around the St. Louis region. They are committed to providing a professional level of engagement with all participants while ensuring the safety of the public
