Screening

The first step is a confidential, no cost, consultation. An informal screening is done to determine the best course of action for the individual.

Recommendations

Recommendations may include attending professional educational courses, a formal evaluation from an outside service provider, treatment at a center with a professional’s track program, and psychotherapy/psychiatric visits.

Monitoring

The STL-PHP provides ongoing support through monitoring to ensure the participant is improving their health and well-being. Monitoring occurs when an assessment indicates that a healthcare professional is experiencing an illness that could benefit from long term and ongoing support. The STL-PHP provides oversight of treatment progress and aftercare recommendations, which is critical to the participants success. Standard monitoring length can be from one to five years period and is dependent upon individual needs.

Types of monitoring include:

• Documented participation in support groups
• Toxicology testing
• Feedback from work monitors
• Oversight of therapy as recommended
• Monitoring with the assigned case manager (group or individual)
• Regular contact with an addiction medicine physician and or addiction psychiatrist

Advocacy

One of the most beneficial roles of the STL-PHP is advocacy. We will advocate and act as a liaison on the healthcare professional’s behalf with employers, state monitoring programs, the Board of Healing Arts and other entities. We are independent of licensure agencies, but we do have a strong working relationship with them. STL-PHP is strictly confidential, any disclosure by the STL-PHP requires the participants written permission.

Education and Outreach

The STL-PHP offers virtual and in person educational presentations that inform medical professionals about the issues we address and the service we render that are an integral part of our mission. The PHP offers virtual educational presentations for universities, hospitals, medical societies, and other healthcare professional organizations.

With mental issues stemming from the current environment, it is more important than ever to educate our healthcare community on the available resources available. The STL-PHP believes early intervention, evaluation, treatment, and monitoring offer the best opportunity for successful outcomes.
